Cardiff Business School

Cardiff Business School is one of the largest and most successful business schools in Britain. Staff occupy key positions in world-wide academic networks and conduct research which influences a wide audience in Britain and abroad.
The School's mission is to produce research of international standing which covers all areas of management and business studies. In the last Research Assessment Exercise conducted by the Higher Education Funding Council, the School achieved the top ‘5’ rating in recognition of the international standing of research undertaken by members of staff. The School also has 'mode A' recognition from the Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC) for its prestigious PhD programme.
In excess of £160 million has been invested in recent years to provide students with modern and well-equipped facilities, ensuring a first-class environment in which to live and study.
Research at the Cardiff Business School
Research is organised, in the first instance, around the School's main subject sections, namely:Accounting and Finance Economics Human Resource Management Japanese Studies Logistics and Operations Management Marketing and Strategy
These provide a broad disciplinary home for individuals, as well as coordinating research, teaching and administration. Within these areas, however, supervision is available across a wide range of research topics and applicants are encouraged to visit the School website for more detailed information on research groups and individual staff research interests. Please see the school research pages for more information: http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/carbs/research.html
PhD Programme
Cardiff Business School offers opportunities for full-time and part-time study leading to the degrees of PhD and MPhil. Our PhD programme is 4 years in length for full-time students.
There are over 150 teaching and research staff at the School, including more than forty professors. At present, we have over 700 postgraduate students, of whom more than over 100 are currently enrolled on the PhD programme.

Funded Opportunities
A number of Doctoral Studentships funded by the Business School are available annually for students of any nationality. If you would like to be considered for a studentship, please indicate on the front of your application form that you wish to apply for a Cardiff Business School Studentship. Please also indicate the same in the section of the application form entitled ‘funding’. The closing date is usually in March each year, although you should check our website for further information.
Cardiff Business School is a recognised outlet for ESRC business and management PhD training and EPSRC doctoral training accounts. We can also assist candidates applying for other sources for funding e.g. the Overseas Award Scheme.
Funding is highly competitive and we recommend planning and researching your funding options well in advance of commencing your studies. In most cases you will need to have a firm offer of a place to study on a postgraduate programme before you will be considered for an award. It is therefore important that you apply for your chosen postgraduate programme well in advance of the closing date for funding applications as set by the relevant funding body.
